Tactics RPG - a love letter to the Shining Force series
Project Overview:
For a while I’ve been a little irked by the gap I’ve seen in the tactics RPG genre. Disgaea is cute, charming, and the game equivalent of trying to finish your meal at an all you can eat buffet; Fire Emblem is rich, gripping, and the game equivalent of trying to rub your stomach, pat your head, and play footsie with a Bop It at the same time.
I want to make a simpler tactics RPG that can welcome new people to the genre without overwhelming or irritating them, the way that Shining Force introduced me.
Name currently a placeholder unless nothing better is thought up/suggested.

Language/Software: Game Maker or RPG Maker
Theme/Setting: Past, steampunk
Genre: Tactics RPG
Musical Direction: I want this game to have a retro feel in sound, drawing inspirations from games like Shining Force, Sonic, and Castlevania (Symphony of the Night to be specific). I'm not good enough a sound director to be able to place genres, but I know what I'm looking for in regards to each board or event.
Artistic Direction: 2D, focus on pixel art for sprites and animations. To put it in words I'll probably regret: I want to do to Shining Force 2 what Sonic Mania did to Sonic 2.
Marketing Details
Payment Terms: WILL DISCUSS
Target Market: 13+, all genders. My main target market will be Tactics RPG fans who want a fresh IP, as well as newbies to the genre.
Device/System: PC/MAC, with potential for mobile and console ports
Budget Plan: Initially this project is going to be hobbyist, but I'm expecting (hoping) that phase to not last too long. The idea for this game is to start by building a small prototype of a handful of characters and classes on a small board for use in marketing ventures. Once the prototype is ready the project will be put up on the likes of Kickstarter, and I will also be seeking financing from local companies for it. Additionally I'm working on a side-app that I'm feeling optimistic about, and if successful this should provide a fair amount of funding for the project.
Profit Plan: This game will make money through sales - I plan to make it available both through a bespoke website and through Steam, with potential mobile and console ports available on the relevant stores.
Team and Role Details
My Role: My roles will be as designer, project manager, community manager, and script writer. In the meantime I can muddle through Game Maker or RPG Maker, though would prefer to have more seasoned developers working on the project.
Roles Already Taken: None so far, but I'm in talks with a composer and sprite artist.

Explanation of roles: For this project the VAs are optional, and we can work without them fine. My hopes for this are to start up a group of budding developers/designers to break out into the industry and leave a solid mark. Lofty goals? Sure. But with the right drive we can make it work.
